Château Lafon-Rochet

The grapes follow the same grandmother’s recipe for the cultivation of old apple trees, of which apples have more taste, a genuine flavour and a very particular length that is not only due to the variety but at the age of this apple tree.
Coming from the oldest wines of the vineyard, they bear less fruit, but offer greater complexity. Lafon-Rochet is a wine that is both simple and complex, it expresses aromas of black fruit in most vintages. There is truly a blend and features specific to Saint-Estèphe, a certain warmth and roundness, full of delicacy coming from Merlot’s grape variety.

2013 is a fruity and feminine vintage. The tannins are elegant and fine, and in a few years it will reveal itself and its wonderful aromatic complexity.

The 2012 vintage is already drinking very well. On the nose it has a pleasant sense of power combined with freshness and elegance. In the mouth, the robust attack is followed by a spicy midpalate and a warm finish. This is very harmonious and powerful wine with good ageing potential.

A balanced, fruity nose that is still somewhat reserved. In the mouth, delicate and dense with beautiful acidity and good length. Our 2011 is light and will drink well over the next five years but could also open up in the years beyond that.

A wine with a charming nose that is fresh and even more intense than that of our 2010 vintage. We love its roundness and finesse. While maintaining all the classic characteristics of St Estephe, there is a fine balance between alcohol, acidity and rich tannins. This vintage offers immense pleasure, with very good ageing potential .

A complex nose that reveals notes of red fruits and oak, despite still being rather closed. There are also aromas of blackcurrant and blueberry.
In the mouth, the combination of every element ‐ tannins, oak, fruit and sweetness ‐ is very successful. This delighJully full-flavoured wine displays a beautiful texture, with well‐structured, pleasant tannins.

Our 2008 vintage possesses a complex and highly perfumed nose of red fruits, ripe vineyard peaches and spicy notes (black pepper and nutmeg). The structure is balanced and
elegant throughout. The tannins are fine, with a finish that mirrors the initial fragrant fruit nose.

A balanced, fresh and precise nose. Notes of spices and white pepper in the mouth, with excellent length and velvety tannins that coat the palate. Overall, a surprising vintage, offering a wine that is generous and ready to be drunk and shared now.

Tasting the 2006 vintage, we find the nose pleasing, open, fruity, and oaky with notes of fresh pepper. The wine is agreeable and elegant in the mouth, with a subtle attack despite the boldness and power of the mid-palate and finish.
The aromas are fruity, smoky and salty. This is a well-made and nicely structured wine.

The nose of our 2005 is complex and fresh with notes of blackberry and spices (nutmeg and white pepper). Lafon-Rochet 2005 is just beginning to reveal its wonders almost 10 years after being bottled. In the mouth, excellent tannic structure leads to a long and elegant finish. A vintage that requires patience and should be drunk between 2020 and 2030.

A highly aromatic nose with a pleasing touch of acidity, expressing above all our wonderful merlot. In the mouth the wine is balanced, with an excellent freshness and powerful tannins. The aromatic palette is built around notes of cedar, hazelnut and nutmeg. The dense and powerful finish highlights the essential character of this wine, which is both fresh and tannic.

This was an exceptional year for St Estephe which is reflected in this wine. The nose is of well-ripened red fruits, cherry liqueur and licorice. The wine is full-flavoured with very silky tannins that remain nevertheless powerful, and which bring a sensation of freshness and bite. These well-defined tannins result in a long, silky, round and fresh finish. Despite the 2003 heatwave, the wine displays a pleasant freshness.

A complex nose with notes of nutmeg, cedar, spices and fresh wood. In the mouth, the wine is round with a wonderful texture, balanced structure and predominant mint and mocha notes. The finish is tight, a sign that the wine is still youthful and will be good to drink for years to come.

Our 2001 is a characterful wine with a nose of tobacco, spices and fresh mint. It offers a very  elegant tannic structure and bite. Following in the footsteps of the 2000 vintage, our 2001 is an elegant and powerful wine with a long, pleasant finish. It will benefit from a few more years in the cellar, to achieve its full potential.

A particularly successful vintage that offers a complex nose which, although still quite estrained, has clear potential. In the mouth, the wine is superbly balanced, silky and warm, with a lingering, elegant finish. Both modern and classic, the 2000 vintage perfectly represents the essence of Lafon-Rochet.
Our most recent 2014 vintage displays similar features to the 2000.

This wine has an intense, attractive and well-rounded first nose – similar to our 2009, 10 years its elder – with aromas of coffee and chocolate. The attack is agreeable and tannic with a balanced mid-palate offering notes of port, cherry liqueur and cognac. A round mouth-feel
displaying aromas of licorice and spices, with a long, warm finish.

This wine has an intense colour with an expressive, rich nose with notes of woodland flora, autumn leaves and dried rose petals. The attack is fine and fresh, slightly sweet with velvety tannins. The wine is powerful, with an excellent structure and tightness in the mouth. The
finish is soft, subtle and balanced. This wine’s tannins keep us enthralled until the very end.

Our 1997 has been one of the most surprising to taste in 2015, displaying a complex and harmonious nose with notes of pics, piment d’Espelette and red pepper, lifted by light oak and warmth. The attack is supple and crescendo’s towards an agreeable finish. A pleasurefilled wine that is drinking well now.

Lafon-Rochet 1996 presents a fresh, floral and saline bouquet. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied with a fine mid-palate and a long, agreeable finish. Predominant aromas include freshly cut mint, while the tannins are still very much present and powerful. 20 years on, this wine retains a very fine structure and freshness.

An agreeable and forthcoming nose offers notes of tobacco and fresh mint. Extremely well balanced, our 1995 has a wonderful attack and a real power to it. In the mouth, the wine is round and still possesses freshness despite its age. It slowly but surely opens up, leading to a finish with remarkable finesse.
